"Miss Gordon, if I didn't have you as a teacher,
I wouldn't be a patriot because you taught me how to love my country, the United States of America!
And you, Miss Gordon, taught me that my classmates are now my Family and that I will have a connection with them my whole entire life."

~ Alex, age 9

About Me

Choose Courage. Choose Glee.

If you have ever seen the hit television show, Glee, my students would tell you that I am the female version of Mr. Schuester, the life lesson teacher who connected best with his students through The Power of Music.  As Mr. Schue learned how to use the special language of words and music to speak straight to the hearts and minds of his students, he was able to help each of them find their own voice and discover their natural gifts and true talents, in pursuit of helping them to reach their maximum potential both inside and outside of the classroom at school.  Mr. Schuester did this in such a way that was personalized and meaningful to each of his students and took great pride in lifelong learning, a lesson which would last forever.

Some of my students would tell you that I am like Mary Poppins with her never-ending bag of tricks to help those in her care achieve academic and personal success.  Others would tell you that I am like Mister Rogers in the way that I am able to speak straight to a child’s heart and allow him or her to feel a sense of self-worth, validation, and belonging, and feel as if they are the only one in the room during a face-to-face conversation, even if they are surrounded by their peers.  Lastly, some of my students would tell you that I am like General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr., a hero with a heart, who enjoys bringing diverse groups of people together through leadership and character development with a mission of improving both myself and those I serve.

A Muhlenberg College graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and a certification in Elementary Education, I have also taken graduate coursework in Educational Administration at Long Island University’s Rockland Graduate Campus and Counseling and Development with a Specialization in Professional School Counseling as a Lamar University online graduate student. Additionally, I have been an active participant in Boots To Business: Revenue Readiness with Mississippi State University and Boots To Business: Introduction to Entrepreneurship with the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Veteran Business Outreach Center (VBOC Region 2), gathering and sharing resources from across the country discovered during National Veterans Small Business Week. This knowledge, skills, and resources have also been welcomed by the veterans I mentor through the American Corporate Partners (ACP) Mentor-Protégé program.

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself," is the life-changing quote by George Bernard Shaw I shared with my students of all ages and ability levels during the time I spent teaching in the classroom, guiding and inspiring life-long learners and Leaders of Characters of all ages for fifteen years. This also includes serving as a Cadet Candidate mentor for United States Military Academy at West Point, volunteering for the past nine years. I am new to the Autism on the Seas Staff Volunteer Family and a National Geographic Certified Educator-in-training who is also learning how to become a Certified Autism Travel Professional so that I am able to share my lifelong love of road trip travel and world cruise experience with families of all kinds, including those with special needs.

As an Academic Life Coach, DreamBuilder ® Coach, Life Mastery Consultant, TranscenDanceTM Facilitator,

Zumbini, Zumba Kids + Jr., Zumba Basic for Adults and Zumba Gold licensed instructor for kids, teens, college, 20s, women, veterans, military families, special needs, wheelchairs, senior citizens, and wounded warriors, it is my hope to help civilian and military families achieve full spectrum wealth in the areas of health, family and relationships, vocation, and time and money freedom, helping them become the best they can be.

My experience with the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation Character Development Program and attending the Medal of Honor Legacy summer graduate program at Freedoms Foundation Valley Forge taught me how to teach lessons of bravery, personal courage, strength, and resilience, courage, commitment, citizenship, sacrifice, integrity, and patriotism while using real-life learning videos and stories to look through the lens of our Young Citizen Heroes, Citizen Honors, and, of course, our Medal of Honor Recipients, the recipients of our nation’s highest military honor and recognition for valor.  I look forward to connecting children, young adults, veterans, and military heroes through The Power of Music, inspirational quotations, personal stories, life lessons and leadership to instill an appreciation of service and a love of lifelong learning.

Maslow Before Bloom: Meeting Our Students' and Our Own Needs in A Global Pandemic

Ohio Council for the Social Studies Virtual Presentation Resource Guide

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fwYQzjnEJhlI8bZWOpba072oEce0MO4A/view

This session will go beyond talking about self-care to literally engaging participants in self-care practices and techniques. This escape will include happiness, global music videos, guided meditation, and a mini-dance party that you won’t want to miss. See you there!

“The Maslow Before Bloom presentation was well done, interesting. You managed to get some pretty heavy information across in between some fun Mr. Rogers-hugging soda machines; from Einstein to Pharrell Williams dancing to “Happy”, you mixed in some light hearted interludes with the deep aspects of your topic.

Continued success with your educational efforts!” ~ Barbara K., virtual presentation participant
